The mission of the EIUC is to foster a community of scholars, researchers and professionals to promote democracy and the implementation of human rights worldwide. The EIUC advances innovative programmes and projects that contribute to policy formation in Europe and assistance to neighbouring countries, democracy and good governance, promotion of the rule of law, and overseas development cooperation.

The EIUC has close relations with the European Union. It is financed by the European Union through the European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR). It also serves as think-tank by organising « Diplomatic Conferences » on current political issues on human rights and democratisation by gathering academics, experts, officials of the European External Action Service and members of the European Commission.
The EIUC is further enriched by the inputs of its Advisory Board composed by representatives of major intergovernmental, non-governmental, regional and local strategic partners.

The EIUC benefits from the important support of the City of Venice and contributes actively to its will of becoming the European Capital of Human Rights and Democracy. The City of Venice provides to EIUC the historical Monastery of San Nicolò and related premises as venue for the EIUC and the HRV.

The EIUC manages the Global Campus of Master’s Programmes and Diplomas in Human Rights and Democratisation (GC) whose activities cover all continents. Its main aim is to educate a new generation of human rights professionals in a global and integrated framework.
