Migration - Challenges and Opportunities for Europe

Torna SopraObjectives and Programme

The Turin International Summer School aims to provide participants with specialised knowledge of economic, legal and social aspects related to immigration flows within the EU system. In particular the programme will focus on:
  • EU Migration policies
  • EU Legal status and rights of immigrants
  • Civil rights of immigrants
  • Expulsion for illegal entry and crimes within the EU
  • Trafficking in human beings
  • Radicalisation
  • EU External relations and human resources development
  • Skills development for legal migrants
  • Integration models
  • Generations of immigrants in Europe
 

Torna SopraStructure and Methodology

Lectures will take place in the mornings and early afternoons from Monday to Friday.
The Summer School will employ a multidisciplinary approach and will involve a continuous interaction between lecturers and participants.
The programme is designed as an intensive workshop, combining theoretical and practical approaches.

Full-time attendance is required throughout the programme.
A certificate of attendance will be given to participants regularly attending lectures.
Participants, once admitted, will be emailed selected studying material before the beginning of the lessons. That material is essential to tackle the course’s subjects.

Lecturers will comprise international experts, University professors and officials coming from International Organisations and European Institutions.
 

Torna SopraDate and Venue

The Turin International Summer School will take place from 19 to 30 September 2011, for a total of ten working days of lectures.

The Course will be run at Villa Gualino (Viale Settimio Severo 65, Torino, Italy), which also hosts the European Training Foundation.
 

Torna SopraRequirements and Language

Graduates and young professionals may apply. Undergraduates in the final year of attendance may be considered for admission. Knowledge in legal, economic and social subjects is an asset.

The course will be in English. Therefore, a good working knowledge of the English language is essential.
 

Torna SopraApplications

Candidates should fill in the application form downloadable from the Turin International Summer School website.

The following documents will complete the application form:
  • A letter indicating your motivation
  • Copy of the official academic and professional certificate including a list of the results
  • Written request of fellowship, if any

The documentation should be sent by e-mail to the Turin International Summer School Secretariat, at the University Institute of European Studies.
 

Torna SopraDeadline

The applications should reach the Turin International Summer School Secretariat not later than June 28, 2011.

The admittance will be notified by email not later than August 2011.
 

Torna SopraFees

Tuition fees are set at € 360,00. This covers: registration, tutoring, teaching, equipment and stationery, training material and lunch tickets for the training days (Monday to Friday).

Costs for travel, transports and visa procedures are not included in the fees.

Payments will be settled by bank transfer to the University Institute of European Studies, which is in charge of the organizing, administrative and accounting side of the project.

 

Torna SopraFellowships

A limited number of fellowships are available. Fellowships may exempt participants from paying the fees or reduce the fees (tuition fees + board and lodging at Villa Gualino) to € 360,00.

Costs for travel, transports and visa procedures are not included in the fellowships.

A limited number of places are also available to those living out of town who intend to stay at Villa Gualino at the reduced cost of € 690,00. The price includes: tuition fees, board and lodging at Villa Gualino for 12 days, from 19th to 30th September. Participants will be hosted in double/triple room full board.
Candidates can ask for a fellowship or a place at Villa Gualino by submitting a written request together with the application. No specific application form for the request of fellowship is foreseen.

Fellowships and places at Villa Gualino will be granted following a selection carried out by the organizing bodies on the basis of the documentation submitted with the application during the selection procedure.
 

Torna SopraOther activities

Besides the training activities, a photographic competition and some touristic visits may be organised during the spare time.
