Corso post-laurea in Law and Business in Europe
Autumn School 2011

TURIN INTERNATIONAL POST-GRADUATE PROGRAMME

7 - 25 November 2011

Torna SopraOverview

The programme was launched as a post-graduate training course in 2005 by the University Institute of European Studies and the Centre for Studies on Federalism and financially supported by the Compagnia di San Paolo.
From 2005 to 2008 the course was structured as an intensive programme (roughly 50 days of training activities), focused on European regulatory framework to be considered when doing business in Europe.
The recent economic developments have suggested that the "Law & Business in Europe" programme could better meet the request of more flexibility, offering a programme which could combine specialised and intensive training with the present need of dealing with crisis management.
Hence the launching of a course structured as a two/three-week Autumn School.

The Autumn School 2011 deals with "Management and Eco-innovation with EU Law".
It is conceived as a three-week Autumn School programme, focusing on regulatory framework to be considered when doing business in Europe.
EU rights and obligations of business will be considered from a multidisciplinary approach, focusing on legal-economic implications with a look at the political backgrounds.

The Autumn School 2011 is organised in collaboration with the University of Turin and the Turin Chamber of Commerce, under the auspices of the University of Fribourg (Switzerland), the European Policy Centre and the European Training Foundation.

The course will be held at the "Collegio Carlo Alberto" in Moncalieri (Torino), from 7 to 25 November 2011.

Torna SopraStructure, Methodology and Contents

European companies are among the global leaders in most industries. Today, all those aspiring to top positions, be it in the industry or in services, need to be well versed in EU legal proceedings, in the regulations and procedures of single market, as well as in means to access EU resources.
Especially with regard to operational decisions, there is some evidence that the business administration needs to be integrated with a legal analysis and the legal studies need to be integrated by a management design.
Accordingly, the Autumn School "Management and Eco-innovation with EU Law" aims at providing the participants with some instruments and skills to identify, plan and implement business strategies in order to minimize adverse consequences and to increase positive effects of legal measures.
The course is particularly designed to appeal to young graduates and professionals from all over the world, dealing with the opportunities of the European institutional framework and the demands of European business.

The Autumn School further comprises a one week executive seminar, characterized by the theme of the “management of innovation”. When products and services incorporate intangible assets, the business management has to change from the ideation to the marketing with an active intervention of law in order to control the intangible assets and to optimize their valorisation. In light of the highly specialized content of this course, the course envisages active cooperation with the Turin Chamber of Commerce, with special focus on the involvement of innovative enterprises.

The training approach includes frontal lectures, practical cases presented by experts and a final workshop.
The Autumn School Course consists of four areas of study:
  1. Law and business: issues and approach
  2. Business administration and corporate finance
  3. European law between EU and national level
  4. European innovation and firm performance

As far as the above mentioned areas of study are concerned, detailed topics will be considered under several aspects.
In particular the Autumn School will focus on:
  • EU Role for business innovation;
  • Business law and European market;
  • Business organization and firm performance within the European market;
  • Strategic tax planning and European law;
  • Management within European market;
  • Marketing strategies and EU competition law;
  • Corporate finance and investment banking in Europe: capital budgeting and essential instruments;
  • EU competitiveness and Eco-innovation policy;
  • Innovation management: strategies-key points;
  • Innovation management: intellectual property law and technology transfer;
  • European funding opportunities for strengthening the innovation;
  • Innovation assessment instruments.

Furthermore, thanks to the participation in the final workshop, participants will be assisted in the acquisition of a set of skills to operate successfully in their working environment. Participants are part of a role play where the counterparts are some of Europe´s most innovative companies with the task of planning, implementing and evaluating an innovation strategy within a management game.
